As you may have noticed from the posts on Tuesday, Helena’s birth went pretty quickly once we got to the hospital. (Yes, those were posted in real time.) I posted that we arrived at the hospital about a minute after Jackie went up to triage while I was sitting in the waiting room. (The time stamp on the post is 10:27am.) Luckily I didn’t have to wait long. Triage was full and Jackie was clearly ready to birth. So I joined her a few minutes later. I took the photo of Helena exactly five minutes after her birth at 11:16am. So I guess we were at the hospital a grand total of 50 minutes before Helena was born. Oops. I’ve been telling people it was 30 minutes. Needless to say it felt pretty fast.
I am proud to report that I caught Helena when she was born. Pretty cool. I think one of the first comments I made once I saw her was: “It looks just like Marion.” I only found out a little later that “it” was a “she.” Once the room settled down after she was born, I realized that Marion’s preschool day was about to be over. We had arranged for our friend, Bonnie, to pick her up, but I realized that I could leave the hospital and bring Marion back to meet her new sister. Given that I had just dropped Marion off before going to the hospital, one friend of ours commented that the birth ended up working out like a dentist’s appointment. Anyway, Marion has been so excited about the baby, I wanted to bring her in to join us as soon as possible. When I picked Marion up, she was unbelievably excited. The picture I posted the other day didn’t even do her excitement justice. Here are a few more that express her attitude a little more.
It was really nice to have Marion there to join in the excitement with us. Let’s just say she loves holding babies–a lot. The hospital was great about letting Marion hang out with us at the hospital. But she’s still two-and-a-half and we were confined to a very small uncomfortable room. So, we did everything we could to get out of the hospital as soon as we possibly could. We ended up getting out of there by around noon the next day. It was very nice to be back home in our own comfortable surroundings.
Anyway, without further ado… here are some more cute baby photos.
