So Good, So Good, So Good!
I noticed that they awarded the MVP to Mike Lowell. I guess he did his part too, but we know what it really takes to win a World Series Championship. John Henry could have at least said a quick “Thank You” to Marion and me for doing our part. It’s gonna be a real bitch trying to squeeze her into that same onesie next year. I can’t make any promises. I just hope for her sake we don’t have to wait another three long years before the next one.

I have heard a lot of talk about the Red Sox lately. But it is far from the usual refrain. Instead of people talking about Bucky “F*@?!#g” Dent, Bill Buckner, or Aaron Boone, I hear talk about indefatigable spirit, incredible comebacks, and (dare I say?) dynasty. Of course, with success comes the haters. The new refrain usually involves either being called the “new Yankees” or bemoaning their mass appeal as due to bandwagon fans. Personally I find either better to the alternative of being cursed lovable losers. Although I cannot claim to have been a Sox fan my whole life, Red Sox Nation’s newest member, Marion can. ![]() Now for anyone in New England, you will know that the Red Sox success hinges on every single member of Red Sox Nation adhering strictly to whatever regimen you have developed over the course of the latest winning streak. Well, I am proud to announce that the Sox can chock their latest round of luck up to Marion’s blue Red Sox onesie (pictured above). |

| Marion actually has two Red Sox outfits (both courtesy of Jackie’s good friend Anik). The other is a pink and grey T-shit and shorts set, like this one. My original strategy was to have her wear the pink outfit for home games and the blue one for away games. The video to the right shows me trying to make both Marion and the TV cooperate during game 1 of the ALCS. As you can see, she’s wearing the pink outfit, so I thought I had a winning strategy.
Over the next few days, we were out of the house, and I didn’t have a chance to get her into uniform. We all know how those games worked out. On the day of the ALCS game 5, we were again out of the house when the game started. When we got home it was a very tight game. Although the Sox were up 2-1, the Indians were threatening with runners at 1st and 3rd. The first thing I did was to change Marion into her blue Red Sox onesie. Josh Beckett then proceeded to strike out the next batter on three pitches. That was the closest the Indians came to winning all night. The blue onesie worked so well that I decided to stick with it, even when the Sox returned back to Fenway. Marion has worn that lucky onesie for every game since. I’m not ordinarily a superstitious man, but let’s look back at the last six games: the Sox are 6-0; they have outscored their opponents 55-12; outhit their opponents 78-44; and they have trailed behind for a grand total of only three innings. Like I said, I’m not superstitious, I’m just sayin’ …she’ll be wearing the blue onesie tomorrow. Go Sox! |
